I am immensely proud to have represented Newcastle North between 2010-2024. I have always sought to be a proactive, accessible and hard-working representative.

I attended schools in Newcastle, studied Law at Northumbria University and was an employment solicitor in Newcastle before being elected as the first women MP for Newcastle North in 2010.

I have held a number of roles in Parliament including Shadow Children’s Minister, Shadow Treasury Minister and Shadow Attorney General. I served as Chair of the Petitions Committee in Parliament and currently serve as Labour’s Shadow Schools Minister.

I have campaigned hard on issues relating to children and young people, apprenticeships, international development, child poverty, accessible and affordable public transport, and our regional economy.

I’ve visited local community groups, businesses, charities and schools, speaking to people about what they want locally and the changes we need nationally. I will always shout up for our area and work to address residents’ concerns.

With a mission driven Labour government, we can secure the changes our area needs and deliver for residents across Newcastle North.
