Catherine was first elected as the Labour Member of Parliament for Newcastle North in 2010, and then again in 2015. She is standing for re-election at the early General Election being held on 8th June 2017.
Born in Denton, the third of eight children, Catherine’s roots in Newcastle are deep.
She grew up in the West End of the city, attending Sacred Heart Comprehensive School in Fenham, and lives in the constituency with her husband Rhys and their three young children.
Catherine’s family also goes back generations in this area, and currently live throughout Newcastle: in Newburn, Denton, Lemington, Gosforth and Woolsington.
Before becoming an MP, she worked as an employment solicitor at a Newcastle law firm, after having studied Law at Northumbria University and Politics & History at Edinburgh University.
