Welcome to my 2019 General Election website

I care passionately about Newcastle North – this is the area where I was born and am now raising my own young family.

It was therefore a huge honour to be elected as the Labour MP for our area in 2010, and re-elected in 2015 and 2017.

Since being elected, I have worked hard to be approachable, transparent, pro-active and accessible and to represent the whole constituency over the last nine years.

I’ve met with so many local people, community organisations, businesses and charities to listen to their concerns and represent their views in Parliament.

It has also been hugely rewarding to be able to help a large number of local people with specific problems – and since 2010 – I have handled around 17,000 individual cases, or policy queries, on behalf of residents and organisations across Newcastle North.

Over the next few weeks, I will be posting regular updates on my campaign and my pledges. I would be honoured to be re-elected to represent our area, and I would be grateful to receive your support on 12 December.

And, if I haven’t yet had the opportunity to meet with you – or if you have any concerns you’d like to raise with me – please don’t hesitate to get in touch using the contact details on this website.

About Catherine

It’s been the honour of my life to serve as the elected Member of Parliament for Newcastle North since 2010.

Before becoming an MP, I worked as an employment solicitor at a Newcastle law firm, after having studied Law at Northumbria University and Politics & History at Edinburgh University.

I was born in the Outer West of Newcastle and attended Sacred Heart Comprehensive School. Newcastle North is my home and where I continue to live with my young family.

My family goes back generations in this area and I am passionate about ensuring our region thrives.

I have worked really hard over the last nine and a half years to represent Newcastle North in Parliament, to shout up for investment, and speak out when things aren’t right. This is our community, so I will always do my very best to make sure we are heard.

The Newcastle North constituency

Newcastle upon Tyne North is geographically the largest constituency within the city, and covers a diverse mixture of urban and rural neighbourhoods throughout Newcastle’s North and West.

Newcastle International Airport, Newcastle Racecourse, Newcastle Falcons’ Kingston Park stadium, and a varied range of businesses and organisations are located within an area that is home to around 68,000 registered voters.

The constituency is formed of the pre-2018 local government wards of Castle, Denton, East Gosforth, Fawdon, Lemington, Newburn, Parklands, Westerhope and Woolsington.
